Senior Program
Dance Classes Mornington
Classical Ballet
Learn one of dance’s most respected disciplines.
This system of training is recommended by the Movement and Dance Education Centre and is based on the Russian Vaganova System of training as taught in the famous Vaganova Academic Choreographic School in Leningrad. This teaching programme leads directly to the syllabus adopted by the Australian Ballet School which is also based on the Vaganova System” – Laurel Martyn OBE. Classical work retains its major importance and is designed to provide a gradual technical progression. Students will be able to progress at their own rate with more emphasis placed on the development of dance quality, style and personal expression to enhance technique. Creative and choreographic movement exploration, gives students the opportunity to develop their natural sense of movement and personal creativity. Incorporating movement exploration and personal input from the students, while developing musical awareness and understanding. Through group and folk dances students develop strength, rhythm and style work. By Degree 2 students may commence ‘Preparation for Pointe’ classes, if suitable. While it can be challenging at the higher levels, this traditional dance form is a pleasure to learn for all ages. Students who take ballet classes build self-control, body awareness and self-discipline as they learn to master increasingly technical movements.
Contemporary
Energetic, creative and choreographic!
Energetic, creative and choreographic classes which aim to better develop the student’s natural abilities and coordination. This was introduced in 1994 and continues to grow in popularity with students loving this unique and fun dance style. Students enjoy the opportunity to develop self-expression as well as exploring a wide variety of dance dynamics and new movements. Students from Stage 2 and up are now able to attend these classes.
Jazz
Boost your fitness and your movement skills.
Jazz classes are available for our stage 1-4 students. They are fun, fast moving and dynamic classes, which aim to improve the student’s fitness and co-ordination using up to date movements and age appropriate music and costumes. Some examples of the techniques our jazz students will learn are turns, kicks, leaps and body isolations.
Tap
Get your toes tapping!
Our tap classes help to develop stage 1-4 student’s coordination in progressive steps and aim to challenge each student to learn and progress at their own pace. The music used is a mixture of traditional tap music alongside more modern approaches as well as that used in musical theatre, to continue to develop musical awareness and timing in a safe environment. In these classes students will be learning the basics of tap technique as well as building on their sense of rhythm and their confidence when it comes to performances. Our tappers love dancing to popular, age-appropriate music and getting LOUD!
Musical Theatre
Got stars in your eyes?
Got stars in your eyes? In this class students will learn dances from popular Musical Theatre Productions combining their love of song with dance in these energetic and diverse classes. The emphasis is on the dancing not singing, though we won’t stop you if you can’t help but burst out in song as that is also so much fun. Our musical theatre program delivers a mix of jazz, tap, contemporary and modern dance skills. Available from stage 3 onwards, these lessons have a focus on fun! Jump, twirl and glide to some of Broadway’s most memorable tunes.
